Solihull, UK: Invictus Games Toronto 2017 competitor and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) employee, Steven Boulton, was given a surprise send-off by colleagues at the car manufacturer’s Solihull site, as the National Flag Tour gets underway in Canada today.

A bespoke car livery, featuring good luck messages from JLR employees to Invictus competitors was on display during the celebration. The livery is also used on a fleet of new Discovery’s on the Invictus Games National Flag Tour, which marks the countdown to the Games starting on September 23.

The Invictus Games is an international adaptive sporting event for wounded, injured and ill servicemen and women and veterans, and was first held in London in 2014. This year, over 550 competitors from 17 nations will be heading to Toronto to compete in 12 adaptive sports. These include wheelchair rugby, which Mr Boulton will be taking part in, in addition to the JLR Driving Challenge.

Speaking at the send-off, Mr Boulton said, “With the Games just over a month away, it’s great to see how much support there is from my fellow Jaguar Land Rover employees, not only for myself but the whole UK team. The livery is a great representation of the good wishes I’ve felt here today. I can’t wait to head over to Toronto in a few weeks and hopefully do everyone proud”.

Rob Lummis, head of employee experience, JLR, said, “It was a pleasure to show our support for Steven in a special send-off ahead of his departure for the 2017 Invictus Games in a few weeks. The passion and determination these competitors show each year is truly inspiring, showing how sport can be an important part of their recovery and rehabilitation. We, at Jaguar Land Rover, can’t wait to see all of the teams from all 17 nations compete in their chosen sport next month and will be cheering them on every step of the way, as well as supporting all of the Invictus competitors on their own journey”.

The bespoke vehicle wrap was designed by Mission Motorsport, the Forces' Motorsport Charity, which aids in the recovery and rehabilitation by providing opportunities through motorsport.

The Invictus Games Toronto National Flag Tour marks the official countdown to the Games and commences in Victoria, British Columbia, on August 16, and will visit over 50 towns and cities, 22 military bases and 15 legions over 37 days before concluding in Toronto.

JLR is continuing its support of Invictus Games in its role as a presenting partner and proud sponsor of the UK team for 2017, following the successful inaugural games in London 2014 and subsequent games in 2016. Since 2013, JLR has hired more than 700 former servicemen and servicewomen in the UK, working closely with the Career Transition Partnership, the Ministry of Defence's official provider of Armed Forces resettlement. The UK team is delivered by a partnership between Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion and the Ministry of Defence.
